While you’re reading this journal post, I recommend listening to Christmas Moon by Brooke Waggoner (it’s the song that plays on the background whilst I write this)
This ‘journalling’ section is where I would like to share my thoughts and feelings about certain topics of life and stuff that I am currently going through. It is more of a personal section to get to know me better and I hope you enjoy it.
The theme for today is about long-distance relationships which not only entails romantic relationships, but also friendships and family.
Because for me, being far away from my…
The Illinois house passed a bill on Wednesday requiring public schools to teach Asian-American history. This sets the stage for a milestone legislation amid rising incidents of violence against people of Asian descent.
The bill, which would mandate the teaching of a unit of Asian-American history in public elementary and high schools starting in the 2022/23 school year, passed the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives by a vote of 98 to 13.
Asian Americans have faced a rise in harassment and hate attacks since the start of the pandemic. …
Puerto Ricans living in the archipelago would never be able to choose who represents them in the White House or on Capitol Hill. Their place of birth makes them effectively voiceless in the United States democratic process. This is the cost of living in the oldest colony in the world, which the United States took control of following the Spanish-American War nearly 123 years ago.
Puerto Rico has two options to solve this issue: become a U.S. state or an independent nation. But independence feels drastic, as the thought of many Puerto Ricans losing their American citizenship that they have…
The Chinese government has detained more than a million Uyghur Muslims in “re-education camps”. Most of the people who have been detained are Uyghur's, a Turkic-speaking ethnic group from China’s northwestern region of Xinjiang.
Since April 2017, some eight hundred thousand to two million Uighurs and other Muslims, including ethnic Kazakhs and Uzbeks, have been detained according to experts.
Human rights organizations and UN officials are urging China to stop the crackdown on these minorities. Chinese officials, however, maintain that what they call “vocational training centres” do not infringe on Uighurs’ human rights.
For the last several years, Venezuela’s economy has been in recession. Inflation has risen and the country is suffering shortages. Citizens wait daily for essential food such as bread. Hospitals don’t have basic supplies, like soap, medicine, and in some cases even water. As a result, protests have been occurring in the streets of the capital city of Caracas, and throughout the nation.
Unfortunately, the response of the Venezuelan government has been to go against its citizens. The police attacks protestors with bullets and tear gas. Journalists that cover the situation are thrown out of the country or imprisoned and…
Today is an opportunity for all of us to stand up and use our voices for good. Showing that the stigma behind mental illness is not true. Having to deal with losing people because of something as important as mental health is devastating. Speaking from experience, having close family members who struggle with this is probably one of the most heart-breaking things that I could think of. You fight with yourself every day. Mental illness takes you and rolls you around in the dirt until you can’t breathe, when it feels like every heart beat is a struggle, when it…
I consider myself an intersectional feminist because I believe that every women’s experience is not the same. Race, background, gender and class play an important role on how their experiences are shaped.
My idea of feminism is the structural and institutional equality for all men and women that allows them to speak out for themselves and enjoy the same amount of rights altogether.
Women should have the right to do and choose whatever they want to be.
